Default Transmission Fluid

Is there anyway to flush or change the transmission fluid without putting the truck on a lift ?

Default RE: Transmission Fluid

Yes, It seems a little hoky but it is prescribed in some Chilton manuals for some Fords, and I have used it on other vehicels (GM). Be aware if you have a lot of mileage, 60k or more without a filter change I would not suggest this as it does nothing for debry in the filter or metal fiiling buildup in the pan.
-Tools to remove cooling lines
-hoses 1- small to sealcooler return, 1- 2 to 3 ft long
-10 qt / 2.5 gallon bucket or bigger (not much)
-12 to 14 quarts trans fluid (Synthetic required on newer models)
1st locate cooling lines with truck cold, start truck and quickly feel which line warms up first. This is the output line you will remove it in a moment. 2nd empty 2 (yes 2) quarts of new ATF (if this is a newer ranger must use synthetic, I have been advised particularly the motorcraft synthetic, and no synthetic blends either - check the bottle), remove the line that you marked as the output from the cooler, and plug the hole in the cooler (piece of hose with a bolt clamped in, or the like). At this point you may want to have a 2 to 3 foot hose on the end of the line to feed in to the catch bucket, which will need to be able to easilyhold 10 qts (2.5 gallons) and you will want to be able to tell how much is it the bucket (i.e. oil change catch pans;you can not tell very well how much fluid is in it). Now start engine and run until the fluid stops running smooth and starts to spit, 30 seconds to 1 minute. Shut down engine immedately. Unplug cooler andreattach line. Now look at how much of the bucket is full (if bucket is 10qt/ 2.5gal then 1/2 full = 5 to 6qts, 3/4= 7 to 8 qts, DO NOT Dump in all ten quarts before checking and do not start before checking. Using caution, add several quarts then check without engine running, if fluid shows at or above full on stick, start engine and check (some have two check marks; cold zone & hot zone) iffluid is still in theOkay zone IE cross hatches, then take for a drive 15 to 20 minutes, stop and go local drive (not highway) stop and check fluid regularlyadd as needed. Do not try to top off the cross hatch; get it close and drive for a couple of days, it seems to need to time to settle in (I topped off and had to drain 1/2 a quart) about 1/2 way to the full warm mark is good.
