Default Weird Transmission Problem???

To start off here is what I have...'03 v6 3.0L automatic
So what's happening is this.....Truck runs fine at cruising speeds, street or freeway. If I need to punch it though thats where the problem is. Engine will go up to about 3500-4000rpm's and then rpm's dive all the way down (like to under 1000). When this happens the truck is very jerky and feels like I am flooring it and letting go repeatedly. Except I'm not and I actually have the pedal down the whole time! When it does this I have to let off the pedal completely and then accelerate gently for it to respond again.

So imagine being on the freeway and trying to pass someone going 50mph...shouldn't be too difficult except when I try, my engine basically cuts out and wont accelerate fast enough. Sucky!

This problem started at around 55,000 miles. Dealership has run diagnostics on it but can't find anything that way. Just talked to another mechanic who said it sounds like a tranny problem he has seen on a few different Ford trucks.............Anyone had a similar problem????

Have your dealer run the TSB for the Syncro. The 3 liter has the remains of a distributor called the syncronizerand as the shaft fails it can cause lurching, bucking, mis-firing like problems over 3000rpm (it can also shear the gear and in doing so the oil pump wil stop IE NEW MOTOR). The computer will not throw a code as the cam sensor (not the crank sensor) is not monitored for faults over 2500 rpm. The TSB reads the EGR pulses, anything over something like 150 to the max of 1043, points to the Syncro being bad.........Chased this problem for 3 weeks.
