2005 Sport Trac "check gauges" light drains battery
2005 Sport Trac runs fine but when in park, turn key off an take out, the ABS, Check Engine and "check gauges" light comes on and the radio doesn't turn off. This drains the battery.
Here's what I've checked:
1. Checked the battery and alternator. they are both good and charging.
2. Test light and pulled and checked all fuses. Inside and in engine bay. Fuse #25 pulled and all lights and gauges go off except the ABS which stays on. Still a draw on the battery.
3. Replaced ignition switch. No effect problem still there.
4. Checked for loose positive and ground wires. None found
5. When running everything works fine.
6. Scanned, there are NO codes.
Took it to a "reputable" shop to be diagnosed for $125 he called and said he needed another $400 to diagnose it harder. No help there

Something of which you should be aware,
Unless the shop has the necessary info to determine just what is going on it can take quite a while to pin down some problems.
Not saying your shop can't do the job, but without the necessary info, they are working blind.
You might need to have a dealership handle this.

Use a guage or test light and start at the ignition switch. If there is not power coming from that, then move down the line until you find where power is coming from. I had a similar thing happen on my f250, albeit 15 years older, but you can use the same method to find the draw. Keep in mind that most implements like the radio, ignition switch, headlight switch etc; will have at least one constant wire that is on all the time. I am unsure on that exact model, but there may be a fuse that cuts power to the ignition/accessory switch completely. Taking that out may help diagnose where the problem is coming from.
