Default 06 taurus P0455 code

Evap cooler - gross leak, no flow. I'm wondering the best way to troubleshoot this. I'm doing this as a favor to someone so hopefully she'll purchase me a motor manual for it. To ease my woes. I will do a search through the forum as well.
Thank you,
Pat.

A faulty gas cap not sealing properly can cause this code. Or it could be a fuel pump o-ring, an o-ring somehwere on a line, could even be a vapor management valve. You could be chasing ducks for days if trying to manually locate the leak. You actually need a smoke machine like the Dealership should have for testing the EVAP system. A smoke machine connects to and fills the entire fuel/evap system with a non-toxic smoke. Turn it on and look for leaks---anywhere smoke comes out---that's the leak. Like I said, without the right test equipment---you'll be running in circles. If you live in California or a California Emission state (NY,Vermont, Maine, Massachusetts), then this would fall under the 8yr/80,000 mile emissions warranty and be covered by Ford.
