Default 1992 Taurus electronic question(s)

The battery on the Taurus went dead. So I booster cable attempted a jump, but it seemed that the dead battery was pulling down the booster battery. So I disconected the Taurus Battery and jumped directy to the Taurus battery cables. It still seemed to be pulling down the booster battery, as if there was a short circuit somewhere. Then I connected an ohm meter to the Taurus battery cables. With the plus meter lead to the plus battery cable and minus lead to chassis ground I see 6000 ohms. When I reverse the leads so the plus meter lead is to chassis ground and the minus lead is to the plus battery cable I see 15 ohms. It appears to me that my meter is looking across a diode. What do you think? By the way, I removed the underhood lamp so that lamp filiment does not impact the resistance reading. As far as I know, the only place on a vehicle that includes diodes is the alternator and probably the radio. But, I've been wrong before. I'm open to anyone that can shed some light on what I'm trying to do. Basically I think that I have a short circuit somewhere. I simply don't know.
