Default 1993 Taurus SHO eats alternators

Have a 1993 Taurus SHO that is stock and we have had to replace the alternate 3 times in the past 12 months. For the 3 years we've owned it,we've had to replace the alternator 5 times. The last time we replaced the battery at the same time as replacing the alternator. The only aftermarket item on the vehicle is an alarm system with remote start, which we had to get because the remotes for the existing alarm system were not available. Is this familiar to anyone?!? Thanks,Ford Frustrated!

Were the replaement alternators OEM or aftermarket? What were the problems with the alternators that required them to be replaced?

Thank you for replying. These were aftermarket, I believe they are from Auto Zone. The problem with them is they stop charging. I talked with my mechanic about maybe there was a bad lot of them, and he checked into it and they only carry onein inventory at a time.

That sounds about right. The DURALAST brand from AUTOZONE just don't hold up. Their starters are also junk. The only good luck that I have had with the DURALAST brand of electronic item is when you go with a new unit, not their rebuilds. And most of the time, their new units cost about the same as the OEM part, but they have a longer warranty.
