Hello and good day:
Do you have a CEL (check engine light) on? If so is it Blinking? I would say that 70 -80% of misfires are caused by a Bad Coil Pack. Usually cracked or broken.[:@]

If you can get to the ignition coil pack, see if you can ohm it out. I had a horrible miss in my 97 Sable before I changed that. It fixed it about 30%. Still working on the issue, but you don't seem to have as bad of a problem.

Hey! I had a similar situation. I did not have a check engine light. I replaced the coil pack, along w/ the wires & plugs. Now my '02 is running like a top. Just as a sidenote... I have the DOHC and also replaced the 6 intake plenum gaskets.

Take care.
