Default 2002 Taurus

The ignition in my 2002 Taurus needs replaced..i no longer have the key for it..Im not positive, but i think that the key had a transponder chip..If that is the case, would a new ignition/key even work? Or would it be easier to just replace the steering column?

I am 99% certain the vehicle does have a transponder(chipped) key.
Second, when you say new ignition, what do you mean? I assume you mean the ignition switch but would like to clarify.
Why do you think you need whatever part you believe is needed?

I don't know if any changes took place from 2002 and 2003 but my 2003 G.M. has a chipped key.

You insert your key into the ignition lock cylinder, when the correct key is inserted the cylinder works like any other key cylinder in a house door or pad lock. The ignition lock cylinder end mates to the ignition switch which is a electronic switch that tells the PCM what position the key is it. When the key is turned to start a quick scan for a chipped key is made by the PATs module to make sure the key that is used is one the vehicle recognizes. The PATs module is what has stored your keys chip code.

If what was damaged is only the lock cylinder then you will need to purchase a new one and key it to the existing key, in which case there isnt anything wrong electrically.

If you are unsure of how extensive the damage is you could take apart the steering column to visually check.

I am in desperate need to fix my AC in my 2002 Taurus. All's I'm getting is hot air. Ive already used a can of the AC recharge stuff and it didn't help. Does anybody have any troubleshooting tips for me? It would be much appreciated. Thanks.

MelV,

If you do not have a set of refrigerant gauges to see where you stand, you are shooting in the dark and may or may not get lucky.

If the system is not functioning correctly , you could have trouble getting refrigerant into it. If it doesn't need addl refrigerant you might have overcharged it which will also give poor results.
Playing around with refrigerant can be dangerous if certain precautions are not taken.
Do you know if the magnetic clutch on the compressor is engaging when cooling is called for?
