Will the car start with a jump from another car or truck? If it does, either thebatteru is weak or there is corrosion in the battery cables somewhere.

I went ahead a gave it a jump and it did start. i turned the car off and tried to restart and it clicked again.

the battery is 8 years old. i'll more than likely replace it.

That might be a good thing. Most batteries do not last much over 5 years.

I wish they were all that easily repaired. Thank you for keeping with the thread to answer as we went through the problem. Good luck and come back.

Make sure the battery terminals are clean as you put in the new battery . Kitchen scrubbing pad is good.. steel woal.. of course discard kitchen sponge after the job. And putting any kind of grease will help keep the terminals clean. It keeps oxygen away.
