Default How to replace ball joints in 2002 Taurus?

I need to replace both of my front ball joints in my 2002 Taurus. I have seen several postings on the internet on how to do it but am a little confused. Can the ball joint be replaced without removing the steering knuckle from the car. If so, how is it done and what tools do I need. Thanks

No the steering knuckle has to come off in order to use a ball joint press. Autozone has a loner tool program which you pay the price of the tool and return it with in 90 days for a full refund. I just replaced all 4 ball joints on my f150. I went to autozone and used theirs cost 130.00 but like I stated I returned it in 3 days for a full refund no problems.

Also you might consider subscribing to alldata.com for vechicle repair and diagrams for your car, I use it. It has paid for itself 10x over.

Cool steps to ball joint replacement

Jere are the steps for repair

Removal

1.Remove the wheel knuckle.
2.Remove the snap ring.
3.CAUTION: To avoid damage to the components, do not use heat to aid ball joint removal. Using the special tools or an equivalent ball joint press and adapters, remove the ball joint from the wheel knuckle.

Installation
1.CAUTION: To avoid damage to components, do not use heat to aid installation. CAUTION: The ball joint is installed with the dust boot attached to the ball joint. Do not damage the ball joint boot during installation. Using the special tools or an equivalent ball joint press and adapters, install the ball joint into the wheel knuckle.
2.Install the snap ring.
3.Install the wheel knuckle..
