Question Swapping out PCM

I have a 97 sable wagon I was told the pcm was bad. Went to salvage yard and got a pcm from a 97 taurus gl sedan. I've been told that I should have downloaded the software from the oringinal pcm and then upload it into the replacement. I know for a fact that the numbers on the pcms are slightly different by one number and digit. I installed the pcm and so far the car appears to be running ok. Anyone else done this before or know anything about this subject.

Thanks

You should be fine as long as the motors are the same from the salvage yard to your current car. Many SHO owners have been put the 92 MTX computer in the MTX cars and the 94 ATX In the auto Gen 2 cars. If you take the car to a garage for service you will have to let them know there is a different computer into and the code for it.
