Default Tower Slotting

My local shop wasn't able to make the adjustments to the front end of my 2002 Taurus. I bought the car at a year old with 10,000 miles on it from a Ford dealership. According to the Car Fax, it had not been in any accidents. I took it back to the dealer and they successfully did the alignment. However, according to a friend, they have used 'tower slotting' to achieve it. Is tower slotting an acceptable method of correcting alignment? Thanks for any opinions.

yes ther are three spot welds on each side that have to be drilled out for this and is the only way to adjust camber/caster
