Default Water Temp sensor.

My 88 GL 4 cylinder has a defective water temp gauge. It is all the way down. I am trying to test the sensor on the block and can't seem to locate it ! I found one for the electric fan that goes on when it overheats and another close to it that regulates the auto choke. But cannot find where it is o the block. Checked all the auto manuals in the Library and no info on location (illustrated) Someone out there know ?

Could be on the lower half of the intake. But really - I could use more knowledge on which 4 cylinder engine you have (in Liters - like 2.3, etc. is fine).
