Red face 88 T-Bird 2.3 Turbo Firm Ride Problem

I posted this a few weeks ago and got no response. So I thought I would try again. I am trying to figure out how the shocks are activated and in what way on my T-Bird. It has a FIRM RIDE control and it appears to stick every once in a while. The other day it seemed to have dropped the car almost two inches and then when it came off of FIRM RIDE I got a flashing firm light. I thought that might mean which shock didn't respond back to normal because sometimes it will flash three times and others it will flash four. I have no idea how these shocks work or the system, so it makes it difficult to diagnose. Does anyone know anything about this system? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks for reading.
