Ford Thunderbird Starting in the 1950s, this was a classic American sports cars, from the compact original of the 1950s, to the muscular hard top coupes of the 1980s and 1990s to the retro look of the 2003 model year, this car is, and always will be, an American classic.

I have a 89 thunderbird super coupe with the 3.8 supercharged engine and the 5 speed manual. Does anyone have info on this model. Specifically the shock system. It has the ARC automatic ride control system. I need replacement shocks. Monroe states the system has to be extensively modified? Are there any replacements available?

When they say extensively modified they mean eliminated. The car is 21 years old and in a few years will be eligible for classic car plates. Question is: is it worth the work? I love thunderbirds and if it were me with my tools, etc. - no trouble, but the average mechanic wouldn't know where to start to unhook the computerized suspension or modify it. I would give a try to going to a specialist in air ride suspension or a 80's Thunderbird club. An online search engine can sometimes find you your way too. It's unfortunate that these leaps in technology fall by the wayside - but they do.
