Default thunderbird smells like gas

just the other day i was drivin and i got a whiff of gas..it smells like its coming from the back somewhere so im thinkin something along the lines of the tank or someother line is leaking..i quit driving it because i dont want anything bad to happen..has anyone else had a problem like this? also i just noticed there was a recall to fix the fuel lines because they would wear out by rubbing on the floor pan...it said the dealer will fix the problem by putting a piece of plastic around the line...would they do this for free or would i have to pay for it?

hey rust... best thing to do when you suspect a fuel leak is to shut that mother off... it would help to post the year... if its less more than 3 yrs old and if your not the original owner im pretty sure they wouldn't do any free recalls... have you checked your gas cap?? make sure its tightened all the way and clicks... next step is to crawl under and look for any fuel leaks... find your fuel pump relay and jump it off so fuel is being pumped with the engine off... check for any fuel leaks
