Default tranny help

I have a 91 cougar(merc.forums didn't help)with a 3.8L.was woundering what three speed tranny's would bolt up too the v-6.I need a three speed for racing,the od tranny wont let me stay in 2nd when i need it too,unless you know a way around the od.all i need is 2nd and third.thanks

Were they rear-wheel drive like the T-bird? (I'd like to be sure). If it's rear wheel - any 3.8 stick shift trans. from around those years should work. Maybe one from a T-bird.
