Default "Oval" heater controls - Escort/Zx2/Taurus

Hi,
For those of you who have replaced your stereo in your 1998-2003 Ford Escort/Zx2/Taurus, you know that whoever's idea to put the heater controls and radio in the same "oval" only works if you never plan on replacing the stereo.
I have seen some people who have relocated their heater controls to the cup holders or "pocket". But those are custom jobs.

Does anyone know if there is a product to change the location of the heater controls or at least make that darn air mix control easier to connect/disconnect?

Joe

YEAH THE "FOOTBALL" AS WE CALL IT IS A BAD IDEA, BUT THAT'S HOW FORD SELLS EXPENSIVE PARTS. AN EASY WAY TO DISCONNECT THE CABLE IS AT THE OPPOSITE END, AT THE AIR PLENUM. THE COUPLER IS TO THE RIGHT OF THE ACCEL PEDAL, AT THE CENTER ARE WHITE CLIPS, PUL OUTWARD ON THOSE CLIPS AND PULL OUTWARDS TO DISCONNECT THE CABLE. BE GENTLE THOUGH BAD HE-MAN.

Thanks for the info, I'll have to try that out this weekend. I wondered about that but hadn't traced the cable.
Someone once broke into my car and took the whole "football" to get the stereo. Those heater controls and wire harnesses... NOT CHEAP!
