I have a 2001 Sport trac that I have had for about 2 months. Sometimes it will start on the first try but usually not, iIf the a/c is on it is worse. Sometimes it is the second or even third key turn before it will start. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if so what the solution is.

 

What sorta mileage does it have on ? , could need just a good tune-up , spark plugs , air filter . fuel filter. Possibly the IAC Valve needs to be cleaned, Or theres a chance you have leaking fuel injectors that are bleeding off.

 

It has 61,333 miles. It also has a bit of a rough idle but runs out great.

 

The IAC valve is right on the throttle plate , held on with 2 bolts an a wire pigtail , Iam sure removing it an cleaning it will help your problems alot ,,,,should correct the rough idle an hard start ..

 

If it has the 4.0 L SOHC engine in it, it is probably the intake gaskets leaking. Does it start ok hot? The gaskets contract when cold causing a vacuum leak and makes it run lean and rough until it warms up a bit. You can monitor the O2 sensors with a scan tool while spraying the intake area with some carb cleaner. If they go rich then you know you have a leak.
