Im thinkin about buying a pretty nice 02 Explorer. thing is I plan on taking in up North to Rhode Island for college, lots and lots of snow. The one the dealer is trying to get me to buy is rear wheel drive, but all my friends up there are telling me to get 4by4 because its better for the snow. When I told the dealer that he told me that the rear wheel drive version had traction control or something, meaning that when one tyre slips, power moves to the other wheels. Is this a legitimate argument, or should I really be trying to find a 4by4? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

 

Traction control helps but for the best traction in snow you can't beat 4 wheel drive. I live in Rhode Island and we do get snow but usually not an extreme amount, lots of people here do fine with 2 wheel drive without traction control so the explorer you are talking about would be a step up from that. Don't forget with 4 wheel drive you will use a little more gas and the repairs can also be higher. Like a lot of things in life its a trade off that you get to decide on. Good luck.
