The first snowstorm of the year proved that my 4x4 isn't working in my Escape. Rear axle isn't engaging at all, but the 4x4 light is coming on in the panel.

Any suggestions?

Hi Fivet i found your add.Interesting that your 4x4 is on the panel but dont work.I have the same year ford escape and the same problem mine is so terrible in the snow so i bought 4 new snows no difference at all.I dont dare drive on highway in snow over 80km if i do i feel rear end wanting to slide all over not impressed at all i travel the highway every day for work.I would be very interested in finding out if there is a solution for this problem.I had mine to the ford dealer they say its working.They also said bring it back when lots of snow so they could test drive the 4x4.I mysel say it is not working.I owned jimmy's previous to this ford no compareison at all jimmy excellent in the snow.
