2004 Explorer v8 temp goes to hot

2004 Explorer v8 temp goes to hot
for the last couple of day the temp guage goes to hot and warining center says Hi temp low oil
oil is full does not leak on ground new coolant shut down about 10 minutes and it is fine for another hour or so
stumped Just to add the check engine light came on with a 1299 code now it is off again
anyone with any ideas ?
