2011 Ford F150 Start Issue
Hi everyone.
RECENTLY I started experiencing an issue where my starter would not engage. When I turn the ignition, the starter sounds like it is beginning to engage but then there is just a long whirring sound. When it first began I could wait a few minutes and try the ignition again. But now it appears that it won’t start anymore. Is this a starter that needs to be replaced?

If the starter is actually rotating but the engine is not rotating would mean the final gear of the starter called the Bendix gear is faulty. If that's the case, I would remove the starter for testing at your parts store. It's best to replace the starter instead of tearing into it to replace a Bendix. You don't want to continue running a starter in that condition because the teeth on the flywheel will get damaged. That's a big deal.
