2020 Explorer Limited
Can anyone explain the tow points on the new explorer. My 2020 does not have a tow point on the rear bumper but appears to have one on the front bumper.. My explorer was also not provided with the towing eye. Even though the owners manual states it must always be with the vehicle.
On SUVs front tow points are often under the vehicle, either part of the frame or bolted on, sometimes the rear will also be set up this way. I dont recall if yours comes with an eye bolt, look at the bumper for a removable 1 inch round piece of plastic the bolt would go through, if you have one the eye bolt should be with your jack/spare tire.
Thanks for your reply.
On the front bumper of my 2020 explorer limited 4WD there is a removable cover behind which is assumed a threaded tow point. On the rear there is no such removable cover, even though the owner's manual says there is one. Also Ford did not supply the tow/recovery eye and the local dealer says it is an option.
For your information, my explorer is again in for some repair and I was given a loner, a 2020 explorer XLT 2WD. It also has only a removable cover on the front. I opened this cover and guess what, NO TOW POINT was visible. Surprise Surprise. No telling what is on my explorer.
Two questions:
I do have a towing hitch on the rear, so could this be used to use as a recovery point?
2. Is there an after market source for tow/recovery points that one can add to the 2020 explorer?

I would call bs on that dealer, Ive yet to see a vehicle not come with the eye bolt if it can use one, I am sure you could buy the eye bolt from the dealer but I dont think you should have to pay for this.
Yes the trailer hitch can be used as a tow point, I would recommend getting one of to use it as a true recover point though.
