'89 escort shuddering and e-brake ?
Hello everyone, been awhile since you all got me through replacing my blower motor a few months back.
I've got an '89 Escort LX with 131K on it that has shudders when down shifting. It has just now started to become more difficult to put into gear, particularily reverse. Is this a clutch issue?
The e-brake also no longer holds. Is this something that just needs tightening? If so, can someone help me with how to do this?
Thanks in advance,
Ken

As for the Clutch, yes that sounds like that is the problem.
I had an 89 escort once, but can't remember if the back brakes were drum or disc.
If they are drum, the ebrake uses the same pads as the regular back brake. You probably have checked the pads to make sure they were still good. There should also be a cable run underneath the car for the ebrake, and somewhere there will be a joining section that can be tightened.
