Default 96 Escort 1.9L Cam trick

Hiya fellas. Just wanted to express a trick that I thought of and used today. Wifes 96 Escort 1.9 SOHC snapped the cam dead center of motor between #2-#3 cylinders. Amazingly it still ran on just 2 cylinders, and that blows me away. But anyways I was bound and determined to fix/replace the cam W/O removing the cylinder head, I was told it can't be done but it can. Disassembled front of motor removed 2 halves of broken cam that was the easy part. But how to you get a 18" shaft into a hole where two 9" pieces cam out of. Simple really. When your ready for the new installation. remove the upper motor mount, Alt, plastics wheel well, and the right front fender. jack the motor up as far as you can. just to were it starts lifting the suspension. slide the new cam over the inner fender and your on your way. This will save you 2-4 hrs of repair time and the cost of a new head gasket and bolts. Good Luck.
