Default Air conditioning issue 1998 Eddie Bauer Explorer

My 1998 Eddie Bauer Explorer was blowing perfect chilled air. Now that I am trying to sell it, it has decided to blow cool air with no chill. Have added freon(or whatever), have tried leak detector/fixer and it still does the same. Can hear compressor kick on. Use max air constantly so it starts on 60 degrees. Never chills to that so runs full all the time and never actually gets that cold. I couldn't stand it if it did. Hope it's not expensive to correct. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Your accumulator probably has a black foam covering on it. This causes rust and then causes the accumulator to rust thru causing a slow leak. Leak detect normally won't work in this area as the foam sucks up and oil and leak detect that may come out. I would start by removing the foam cover and looking for any rust/leaks there. There are other senarios that can cause your problem, but this is the most common.

Hey, thanks for the idea. We'll start there and see what happens. I don't know if this means anything, but this morning it was real cold, so I turned on the heat. It would blow nothing but cool air. Even tried the defrost to get some heat. Still cool air. Any more ideas, unless you still think it is the foam on the accululator.

Since you're not getting totally cool air when the A/C is running and you're not getting very warm air when set to heat, I would suspect a problem with the "BLEND" door. This is a common problem with the Explorer/Rangers. They either break or get stuck on one of three positions...Cold, Warm or MIX...
