Question Alternator, when to replace?

1994 Aerostar, V-6 XL, has original alternator with 108K. Should I replace it now? I am worried it will go out on me when I am on a trip and miles from no where...

The call is up you. I have an '88 Escort with 509K miles on it that still has the original alternator. The only thing that's been done to it is having the brushes replaced once.

I had a 1992 Aerostar that we purchased new. Sold it at 247,000 miles with the original still putting out power. I've owned 17 Ford products over my lifetime and all were sold with between 109,000 - 247,000 miles with no alternators ever being replaced. Like FordMan59 says...It's your call...

The old one may outlast your lifetime and a new one could fail in 3 days (Seen that on a "WILL IT LAST" from Autozone).

Smile Replacing alternator

Very interesting replies. I will go now with the adage,
don't fix something that is not broken".

Might get lucky and make out like a bandit. Failure could happen in front of my favorite garage shop also?

Thanks to both of you above..

You can change it but if it will not give you any problem then its ok with it. Don't make so many changes with car when it tries to adjust with all the perts.
