Default Clicking from shifter????

Ok here's the problem. I've got a 2000 Escort ZX2 (automatic tranny), and when the brake is applied/released, it makes a "pop" from the shifter. Any one know what this could be?

Normal. When you push the brake, it activates a solenoid in the shifter assembly that allows you to take it out of park. Escorts are also normally very loud. I wouldn't worry about it until it becomes difficult to shift.

well it did usually make a slight click when the brake was applied in gear, but just tonight it started making an insanley loud pop when the brakes were applied. Can't be normal, maybe trans electronics or shift cable?
