Default E150, 5.8, "fluttering"

hi, i have a 1996 ford e150 conversion van, 5.8, 108k, ( listed a few weeks ago under e150 coughing/sputtering )
I just did a complete tune up,
plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filter, pcv valve, fuel filter, replaced maf sensor. replaced a few dryrotted vacume hoses.

it had a lot of pinging before, ran very bad. kept getting lean bank codes. they seem to have cleared up now.
runs much better. but now i seem to have a "flutter".
it idles nice, but at the tailpipe, it has that "puh....puh....puh" sound to it. ( a miss? )

the plugs i removed were very "gummed up", i pulled a couple of the new plugs and they seemed to get "blackened" pretty quick, Ifigure i would run a tank of gas with fuel injector cleaner through then checkor replace the plugsif they are dirty again. the pcv valve was packed solid, ( the new one actually chatters now).
any hints as to what the "flutter" could be?
is the timing off? ( the manual says that it is not adjustable)

( thats the best description i could use for theproblem)

I really appreciate any replies, advice, suggestions as i need this van to running for the family. ( and better gas mileage!)

Is the "FLUTTER" just the exhaust noise that you here when idling, or is it a drivability issue that you can feel when driving? If it's just exhaust noise when idling, it may be as simple as the exhaust getting burnt out over the years. Especially the resonator as it's designed to eliminate the last of the sound pulses.
