Engine comparison
Hi all
I am often interested in how modern engines can get so much
power to the rear wheels compared to say the mucsle car era.
While doing reading on the net, I saw an article regarding HP
and drag times. One calculated the New Ford cammer as a 440HP
by its race time. Another calculated the 69 Boss 302 as a 290 HP
engine by it's race time.
Then on Mustang 360 I read an article on a "shoot out" between
a Boss 302 and Boss 351 era 1969\71 ( these were new build engines)
keeping to original specs
The dyno showed the Boss 351 BHP at 379 + - and the 302 at 371 +-
about 9 HP difference...
clearly to anyone with engine knowledge that the Boss 302
had way more BHP then the 290 HP listed at the time. Just by looking at the head flow numbers at around 274 cfm for the canted valves..
Fords latest 5.2L flat crank is showing 570 HP from a naturally asperated
engine.. At least that is how I read it...no power adder... and passes
gas guzzler tax.
best
