So I'm out driving, speedo works fine, stop off and radio shack, fire it back up and speedo doesn't work. I have a 79 straight six fairmont (not futura). Is there a fuse that specifically governs the speedo? Is this a common problem? Luckily I had a gps in the car so I could keep track of my speed.

that would be speedo or the speedo cable they weren't elect. back then

 

verify that the cable is not loose its conection

 

Where does the cable connect to the transmission? I am having a hell of a time getting to where it connects to the instrument cluster... damn this is a pain in the ***.

 

to tranny tail ad in the rear of the speedometer those are the only 2 places it connects to

 

speedo cable attaches on the extension housing of the tranny....should be a lock bolt to hold the speedo assembly into the extension housing.

pull it out and check to make sure plastic gear is not "apple cored" (worn out)

you might need to replace the rubber o-ring around the speedo housing...or just use some high temp silicone...


you can spin the gear by hand once you have it out and have someone watch up in front to make sure it works....

Not yet, its been cold and rainy lately, I'm gonna tear into her today. Thanks for the help guys, I'll let you know if I have any issues.
