I have a ford fiesta 1.3 year 2007,when starting engine there was a tapett rattle for 3 seconds until oil reached them? I have changed the oil and filter using ford 5w 30 synthetic, now when starting there is no tappet noise but in 5 minutes there is no oil pressure and lots of tappet nois and I have to switch engine off. When I restart no problem 5 minutes more and same problem. The engine has done 90.000miles,can anybody help please.Leslie

put a oil pressure gauge on it and verify what the pressure is. Rule of thumb minimum spec is 10psi of pressure for every 1000rpm. if you rev the engine up to 2000rpm, does the pressure increase and the noise go away?

on first start up, the oil viscosity is higher and pressure higher...as it warms the viscosity drops and so does the pressure. It may of had a thicker dino oil in it before the oil change.

possible faults are bad oil pump or worn out engine with bearing clearances that are too large. We will know more if you could provide pressure readings of the pump and top end.

Hi
there
I have had the mechanic put a pressure gauge on the engine, the reading at idle (1000RPM) is one bar, about 14 PSI, on increasing the revs the reading does not rise,in fact it drops he is adement that the oil is not getting to the pump and he says he needs to clean the oil pick up filter. This he says he can do with a special fluid? what do you think of his comments obviously if he is correct it will save me time and money

I would not know. If he is familiar with this model and has seen it before; he may know what he's talking about. May be worth a try. If it doesn't work you probably need a oil pump. The pressure relief valve maybe nfg?
How much labour time to do this treatment vs changing the pump.

Default Ford fiesta oil pressure problem

I have been told that the engine will have to come out to change the pump so there is a lot of saving with not having to do that
