trying to figure out why my daughter's 06 econoline 1 ton van is so hard to get the cruise to come on. sometimes it will power right up and work, but most times you can push the button 20 times and it never does, but maybe 50 or 100 miles down the road you hit on and set and it works just like a new one. I tend to think maybe it's something as simple as dirty contacts in the on/off switch but with the airbag in the steering wheel I have not tried to troubleshoot anything. any tips?

 

The cruise control on my Freestar was doing the same thing a couple of years ago. I sprayed (flooded) CRC contact cleaner under the buttons while pressing them on and off several times. Been working fine since for the last couple of years.Put a rag on the steering wheel below the buttons to catch the run-off.
