General Ford-specific Information Needed
Hi,
I just acquired the first Ford truck I've ever had in my life. It seems like a good truck so I'm going to keep it. It's a 1997 F350 Crew Cab 4x4 with a 460 and a 5-speed and power everything else. So my questions are the following -
Where can I purchase a parts manual?
And a shop repair manual specific to my truck?
Where are some of the best places to purchase parts for my truck?
And is there someplace where I can obtain a Line Setting Ticket for my truck? (I don't know what the Ford equivalent terminology is for Line Set Ticket). For example, with International Harvester, with just the VIN number you can order a LST for any truck manufactured from the 1920's to the present and that ticket will tell all the information about the components and options the truck was made with, including what engine was installed, transmission info, axles, axle ratios, brake type and size, steering, weight, wheel base, gvw etc etc. I would like to know some of that type of info about my truck.
That should get me started.
Thank you all for your help and direction.
Steve

Please excuse my ignorance, but another newbie question - I've been looking online for some parts and accessories - is my '97 F350 4x4 crew cab the same as a Super Duty truck or are Super Duties different from standard F350 4x4's? And one accessories store referred to some trucks as F350 Super Crew Cabs - is that just another name for my truck model?
I hope this is the place for these types of questions. If not, please let me know and I will delete or move them.
Thank you.

Welcome to the site Steve..
Genuine Ford Parts are always a better bet IMO, but many times aftermarket is the only option if OE parts are no longer available. In those cases, Id stay with a well known supplier that backs their parts. There's quite a few parts houses selling cheap parts from overseas, and hard to escape imports, but even so the quality of those parts varies greatly. Nothing worse than having to do a job twice.
Helms supplies a lot of Ford service manuals,, sources like eBay you can generally find used manuals at a good value. As well as CD/DVD options at times..
Ford uses 'As Built' data, and you may be able to supply a VIN at Ford Service/Parts for a build list.
Super Duty was introduced in 98 for the 1999 MY. Prior builds were HD
If you need shop repair info before you acquire manuals etc, post up a request
