Oil on 2 and 3 spark plug
Just changed the 2 and 3 spark plug on my 4 cylinder 2008 escape. Watched a few videos to be dangerous. Can someone walk me through as to what is wrong with the vehicle? The oil was only on the 2 and 3 spark plugs. 1 and 4 were clean, thanks for the help in advance.
Also bear with me, I know a little about this.

Are you getting any blue smoke out the tail pipe when you start it? If so that is a sure tell sign you are burning oil. Is the engine loosing power?
How often do you have to add oil between changes. I assume you change your oil on a regular schedule?
It may not be a terribly bad problem. Your piston rings may be worn or stuck and not sealing. The valve stem seals or seats may be worn but it may be a long time before you get to the point were it is a serious issue. You can compression test the pistons to see if it is serious problem. You can rent the tool at Autozone.
There is a product called Auto RX that can free up stuck piston rings, sticky valves and it removes sludge from the engine in a more gentle way than Risoline and similar chemicals.
These chemical things are controversial and I generally don't like them. Even If this is your problem, there is still no sure gaurentee it will work. But I never heard of anyone blowing their engine if they follow the directions with Auto RX. Google on it and learn more. It may be worth a try before getting expensive engine work done.

Thanks for the reply. I appreciate it.
From what I can tell I am not burning any oil between oil changes. Also I don't have blue smoke on start up either. The check engine light comes on and goes off every now and then at random. Could it possibly just be the spark plug seals are going bad? Also the car has 109000 miles on it. I will look at the compression test as well. Thanks for the help.

Get the code read. Even if the CEL is not on, the code is stored in memory for a period and you can retrieve it with a code reader.
If you don't know anyone with one, go to a large auto parts store like Advance Auto or AZ and you can get the code retrieved in the parking lot.
