Default Oil Change Indicator

My 2005 Freestyle oil change indicator is setting off too soon after it had been reset to 100% on the last oil change. Currently it reads 52% remaining after driven only 1180 miles.
Is there any way to re-calibrate this indicator to go to 5000+ miles for my oil changes or do I have to take it to the dealer to re-program the system.

Default RE: Oil Change Indicator

This is my wife's car and she doesn't drive much further than say 6000 miles/yr. I like to do the oil changes myself with a planned OCI 5000 miles or 8 months, whichever comes first especially if I'm going to use a premium full synthetic oil.
The problem as I see it is that Ford's system takes time and distance into consideration so it will show 0% much earlier than 5000 miles and that's too soon IMHO in our case. Hate to depend on the old fashioned manual records . Needs more flexibility to accommodate different driving needs.[sm=boosign.gif]
