RE: pcv valve
Your 88 Grand Marquis 5.0 V-8 probably just like my 87 Crown Victoria.
PCV valve location is on Upper Intake Manifold (aluminum) in back of throttle valve.
It is well hidden and I agree not in Haynes manual. I have Helm Ford Service books
and I dont even know if in there must be I just not see yet.
This PCV valve is very hard to BOTH see AND reach; I can only get to mine by
sprawling on top engine from front of vehicle is very close to cowl, hood bottom,
other vacuum and electrical lines. I can only see PCV valve and that end of rubber
hose attached to its top. I dont think I can see other end. Im still working on mine.
Also look at all vaccuum lines MAP sensor, EVS control, etc; many of mine were no good-they looked okay but bending them disclosed many many fine cracks and split at junction to manifold.
Be careful 4-6 vacuum lines attach under Upper Intake Manifold.

RE: pcv valve
oh another thought since you are looking near Throttle valve.
pull the big rubber air intake hose, housing and air filter off.
clean/replace above BUT ALSO here is important thing:
check the TVP Throttle Valve Position Rod to the Auto Trans.
this is also hard to see but YOUR Haynes Book does have
pictures & text to guide you.
There is a White plastic block with a White push-pin inserted in a
gromet which is attached to the throttle lever, etc.
If this white push-pin is loose or, worse, has broken and fallen out
completely your Auto transmission has no throttle pressure to control
things like the 3-4 up/downshift into overdrive and it will slip like crazy
usually on the highway at speeds over 45-50 mph--you wind up in
neutral unless you back of the throttle pedal slightly. Haynes and other
books all state: do not drive car with this broken else damage.
I thought my old boy (the 87 Crown Victoria) was headed for
some expensive transmission work...or worse...but after I used
some chicken wire to get the push-pin reattached, problem solved.
at least for the last two years until I remember to get one at junk yard.
