Default Remote Entry Key FOB Problem

Hi,
New guy here looking for help. Just puchased a new keyless entry remote to replace a broken one. This is for a 2002 Eddie Bauer Explorer. Followed the progamming instructions, tried every suggestion and cannot get it to work. I have also lost the use of my one original remote. When I get to the part to press any key within 15 seconds on both remotes and the locks should lock/unlock this doesn't happen.
Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Do you have all the doors shut when you are programming it?

Yes. I've tried all of the options suggested in the instructions.

Were the instructions in the Owners Manual? Or were they with the new transmitter? The only problem I have ever had was having the doors in the wrong position, the doors locked, or taking too long to program. If this does not work, let us know the build date. (located on the VIN sticker on door or the door pillar) There are a couple more tests dependant upon build date. Good luck. Here are the instructions from the Workshop Manual:

Remote Transmitter Programming
NOTE: All remote transmitters are programmable and must be set at the same time.

Make sure that the anti-theft system is not armed or triggered and key code programming is not active.
Open the door, then press the driver door lock control switch UNLOCK button.
Turn the key from OFF to ON 8 times within 10 seconds, with the eighth turn ending in ON. If the program mode is sucessfully entered the doors will lock and unlock to confirm.
Press any button on a remote transmitter, and the doors will lock and then unlock all doors to confirm that the remote transmitter is programmed. All remote transmitters must be programmed within 20 seconds of each other. Up to four remote transmitters can be programmed to the vehicles security module each time programming mode is entered.
If the door locks do not respond for any remote transmitter, wait several seconds and press the button again. If the door locks still fail to respond, refer to Locks, Latches and Entry Systems — Late Build or Locks, Latches and Entry Systems — Early Build in this section.NOTE: Exiting is acknowledged by locking and unlocking the doors if at least one remote transmitter has been programmed.

Exiting the programming mode is accomplished if one of the following has occurred:
The key transitions to OFF.
20 seconds have passed since entering programming mode or since the last remote transmitter was programmed.
Four remote transmitters have been programmed.

The build date is 09/01. I first tried the instrutions that came with the remote. Instructions in the manual were similar but not as detailed. I have tried every which way possible. Doors open, closed. The only thing I don't know is the key pad entry. I bought the car used but it was only 8 months used. I never used the key pad and can't find the wallet card that has the factory code on it. I'm able to get to the doors locking/unlocking after the 8 key turns but when I hit a remote button for the next step nothing happens.

Somewhere in the vehicle the 5 digit code is printed on a sticker. Maybe in the rear panel behind the rear seat close to the door pillar. Not sure if it is on driver or passenger side. it can also be under the dash by the PCM. They change the location quite often. Otherwise a Ford dealer can get the code for you. It needs a Ford Scaan tool to read the code for you. Good luck. Also if it has had 4 remotes programmed, it will not do any more.

Default Reprogramming question

Maybe you guys can help me out. My remote fob disappeared. I want to get a new one and program it. Is there a way to program the remote and make it so the old one wont work if it happens to turn up in the wrong hands????????????

Welcome to the site..

When programming remotes, you have all the available remotes in/on hand for programmed at that time. The programming is a rolling code, so when the programming is changed, the old remote/s or any not in proximity during the programming event will loose activation and access.. .

Do not hold me to this in any way what so ever but if you follow the directions for programming the new remote then in theory that should be the only remote the vehicle recognizes.
The instructions state the following "All remote transmitters must be programmed within 20 seconds of each other."
I would take this to mean that doing the programming clears all remotes from memory and then only the remote programmed at that time would work.
I am not honestly sure about this though.

Not to be point out the obvious but have you checked the battery in the remote is good?
