Ticking noise
I bought a 2004 F-150 FX4 5.4L a little under a month ago from used car dealer. Noticed a ticking noise once I got home with it, which only happens when it is warm. When it is cold and running it sounds fine. The used car dealer says that it a normal noise. Brought it to a Ford dealer, they said that its not a normal noise. Its under warranty 60 days, 3000 miles. What do you think it could be?
What did the Ford dealer say it was?
If I were to tell you i feel pain and asked you what it was do you think I gave you enough info?
There are several reasons you could hear a ticking noise from an engine, most of which are not normal.
Need more info and it's almost impossible to diagnose a noise without actually listening to it. If you have any reservations return the vehicle and get your money back.

The used car dealer is telling me that its normal. Then the ford dealer says that it is not normal, that they think it could be the cam phaser. To take an oil pressure test, and to check for damage, that they would need more time to look at it. I am taking to another ford dealer monday for a second opinion. It runs fine performance wise, but just sounds bad. I have had it for about a month and think its too late to return it. So I went to dmv to get a form to file a complaint against them, and get it fixed right. I was just trying to see if that noise is normal that comes out of F150's, because that is what the used car dealer is trying to tell me.
In response to the ticking, as the other previous post stated the more specific you are the better in regards to answering these questions. Fords especially 04' 05' F-150's have alot of cam sensor issues that create that ticking noise. The "ticking" is coming from your sensors trying to monitor your engines output and in turn they calibrate the engine or "tune" the engine in order for you get get ideal gas mileage etc...When your cam sensors aren't working properly they tick. Now, it could be a number of issues but that is by far the most prevelant. Check out a site called www.autobeef.com and look up your make and model. It will give you a comprehensive overview of the most common problems and peoples solutions for that problem.
