car will start and run, but will not go into gear. Took the pan down, and i can see the lever switch. There is a electrical harness, and I've put a meter, and some get contnuity and some dont. Is this a tranny problem or brakes or what?

 

also, when i put it in gear, after jacking it up, you cant turn the wheels? when you push down on the gas, wheels dont move. pan was clean, filter was clean, oil doesnt smell burnt, and its a nice red

 

can't turn the wheels ? Just the engine? Or do you mean can't turn it by hand? Does it sound like its under a load when you add fuel or just rev's up like its in neutral ?

 

sounds like the selector lever is malfunctioning inside the unit. when you say you cant turn the wheels....you mean its stuck in park??

is the selector lever nut loose? is the selector lever shaft broken?

what vehicle is this??? this would help a lot!!
