Trouble code p0708 & p0453
This is my first post to this site. I have posted at a couple others in the past and figured I would check this one out.
I have a 1999 Taurus and the "SES" light came on and my O/D light started blinking. I hooked it to the scanner and got the codes p0708, transmission range sensor, and p0453, EVAP emissions sensor.
Does anyone have any tips on replacing/adjusting the transmission range sensor?
I have heard that the p0453 code can be caused because of a gas cap problem. I recently had the car inspected and the gas cap passed the pressure test. Where do I start? Do I need to replace the sensor and if so is it located on top of the fuel tank?
Thanks for the help in advance.

The TR sensor is easily replaced. Park vehicle on a level surface, engage parking brake then place car in neutral. The sensor is on top of the transaxle just below the master cylinder. There is a linkage that attaches to the top of the shaft that needs to be removed. Unplug the wiring connector. Then there are 2 little bolts that hold the sensor in place. Remove the sensor.
Before you install the new sensor, there are 2 lines that need to be lined up. One is on the inside part that moves and the other is on the outside body. Make sure they are lined up. Place over the shaft and install the 2 little bolts. Just snug them in case you need to adjust the lines so they will line up exactly. Then tighten bolts. Install wiring and the shift linkage. Try the vehicle to be sure it will only start in Park or neutral. Then you are done.
The FTP sensor is on top of the tank. There is a really long test to be sure that is the problem. But the tank needs to be lowered so you can access thge sensor. Good luck.
