Trouble starting my F150
I recently bought a well used 1990 F150 and it has a starting problem. I usually have to try several times to get the starter to turn over. At first, I thought it was a problem with the clutch interlock. I replaced the interlock switch and it still has the same problem. I can jump across the starter solenoid and if turns right over. I can also apply battery voltage to the terminal on the side of the solenoid and it starts right up. When I check the voltage that's actually going to the terminal on the side of the solenoid, it only reads 3 volts when the key is turned to the start position. I think it should be 12 volts. When I appy 12 volts it works correctly. Does anyone have any idea why I would have low voltage, only 3 volts, at the solenoid?
