Using OBD2
Hi,
I've just bought a 1997 Ford Thunderbird LX 4.6L V8.
I'd like to play with OBD2 as I have never used it before. Just to see if there are any fault codes and learn what it can do.
I want to use some software on my laptop and connect it to the car. Can anyone recommend good software for this? I have heard of Vehicle Explorer, is that a good one?
Also I will need a cable. I searched ebay.com and found loads of cheap ones. Will any one do?
Thanks

I know this thread is an old one but since nobody answered ... you can use a Bluetooth code reader that you can connect an Android phone up to (or even a computer but not sure on the software for that) or just get a simple stand alone reader.
Here is a review/detail on the Bluetooth solution I use:
ELM327 Bluetooth OBDII Reader and Torque Android App Review
A good standalone reader is this one (haven't tried it but the reviews are really good):
