I have a real nice 85 Ford F-150 XL Explorer pick up truck 4.9 300 straight..6... that Im converting to a 4speed 4wd. I am doing the change this week and am looking for any advice as this is my first. I have been told that since I have both trucks of the same year that it should be sraight forward and easy to do. Well, everything should bolt up anyway. Not sure if I have to swap over the rear axle? Or if Im going to need lift springs for my 2wd considering the width of the rear springs is 2.5'' and the 4wd is 3'' Can not use the 4wd springs and set up because they are no good. Would like to know if the axle ratios are the same 2wd and 4wd. There is no axle tag and cant find info on this computer. Anyone who knows or has done this please help. Also have been looking for the value of this truck. Tried kbb they dont give me the option to go back to 1985. Everything is hard for me to find on this computer.
