1996 Escort LX

I have a '96 Escort LX with a Prolock Security System installed. To the left of the steering wheel is a red light, and hanging under the dash is a button that will kill the ignition. I've been having battery problems and I suspect this Prolock is the culprit. Does anyone know if there's a way for a non-mechanically inclined person to disable this thing? There is a contraption attached to the battery cable right at the battery I think may be connected to the Prolock System, but as I said, I am not mechanically inclined and am hesitant to just start disconnecting stuff.
