2003 Ford Escape Cruise Control

Talking 2003 Ford Escape Cruise Control

I am new to this forum and am very much appreciative of any help that can be provided.
I have a 2003 Ford Escape upon which the cruise control is not working. The steering wheel switches do nothing. I did the push button diagnostic on the steering wheel and it indicated that the brake pedal de-activation switch was faulty. However, I used a paper clip to jumper the switch connector and it did nothing (cruise control still would not come on). Put a tester on the deactivation switch itself and it is working. I then tested the deactivation switch connector with my voltmeter (with ignition switch both on and off) and there is no power to the switch. Does this pretty much indicate that the amp on the servo is bad? I can pick up a used one for about $30 but hoped someone might point me to a simpler fix or something I am over-looking.


By the way, I also used the CDC contact cleaner on the steering wheel switches, blasted the crap out of it and worked the switches repeatedly with no effect. It was raining outside and I did this with the windows rolled up and doors closed....I don't recommend this since I was pretty woozy afterwards and I think I saw a unicorn

You'll be ok, I'm up to 2 cans a day now with no dain bramage. ;#)

You should have power to both the deactivation and brake pedal position switches if the fuse (15amp) F2.24 in the CJB is good. It will/should be 'hot at all times' If you need help with pin out tests for power/circuit distributions let me know..

I do appreciate your help. The fuses are good and so I went ahead and checked the resistance and voltage at the pins on servo amp. The voltages at the pins are way out of spec. (at least according to the info I found on the net)


Pin 4- pedal depressed the voltage should be 12 volts I am seeing 9 volts
Pin 5- ON switch on steering wheel depressed, should be 12, I see 10.5
" " OFF switch depressed, should be 0, I see 6.9
" " Coast switch depressed, should be 1.7 volts, I see 0
" " Resume switch depressed, should be 6.3, I see 5.0
" " Set Accel switch depressed, should be 4.8, I see 3.08
" " No switches depressed, should be 7.5, I see about 7.0
Pin 7 should be 12 volts, I see 10.0
Pin 9 deactivation switch- brake depressed 10.4, brake not depressed 10.4


Also checked the resistance between pins 5 and 6 while pressing the steering wheel switches and found all were in spec except for the RESUME switch. It was supposed to be around 2100 ohms and I was getting nothing.


Sorry for the barrage of info. Does this indicate a short somewhere (heaven help me!) or maybe the servo circuitry is bad (expensive but easier to replace).


Have seen no unicorns today, so apparently no permanent damage (but after the Ole Miss bowl game, my team, I may go out and take a few more shots)

One other thing, I made a mistake and I did actually have voltage to the brake pedal deactivation switch. It was about 1.5 volts.

Deactivation switch and the pedal position switch should have 'battery voltage'. hot at all times LG/RD wires..

The low voltage on the brake pedal deactivation switch (1.5 volts instead of battery voltage) could that be caused by a bad switch on the steering wheel? The lack of a change in resistance when I tested the RESUME switch for instance?

Power distribution to both the deactivation and pedal position switches comes straight out of the CJB.
