Default 2003 Ford Expedition Stallling

Hi
Like many I have read I am having the same problem in varying degrees. Not only does my SUV die when driving on the highway at 100 km but it also will die doing 30 or 50 or idling. It doesn't seem to matter whether I have a full tank of gas or a half or quarter tank. Also like many of you I have had it taken into the dealership but told to bring it back when it does it again. Only thing is it always starts after it dies. I have also contacted other repair shops and they tell me if it was the fuel pump it wouldn't start again. That typically when the pump goes it's gone, it this true or not?

I was also told it could be a value sticking which is a problem in a lot of ford vehicles. Has anyone else been told this or have had a value changed and it has corrected the problem? I am scared to drive on main roads or highways and that it will fail at an intersection. I don't want to start changing pumps or values or all sorts of stuff and have to keep paying out crazy amounts of money to try and figure out what is wrong. Help from another ford owner!!!!

Can you provide engine size, mileage, and service performed, namely when the Oil, PCV valve and Fuel Filter were last changed. Yes, the fuel pump and pressure regulator are suspect, but so also are other causes.

I have read mixed reviews using SeaFoam but I personally have had success using it, consider this link. I believe part 1 and 3 would best suit you, right or wrong it cannot hurt and a cheap test.

The engine is a 5.4 Litre. Oil change is done on regular basis every 5000 km I am at just over 137 thousand km and am due to change the oil again at just over 139. Air filter was just changed at last oil change. I also had the power steering hose changed in the spring. I do not believe the fuel filter has been done since I got the car as I did not buy it new. And not sure about the PCV Value. I just don't want to start spending five hundred here and a hundred there. It's funny you use to bring your car in and they could tell you it was a fuel filter or a distributor cap, but now with these newer vehicles especially anything that is fuel injected you end up spending a whole lot of money replacing items that may be the problem and most of the time you change 3 or 4 before you find out that the first 3 were just fine. I have read on this forum other people having the same issues and have changed a number of things and are still having the same problems. What gets me mad is when I go into the Dealership and tell them what is happening and they say come back when it does it again. It does it again but it starts up right after and then may not do it again for another few weeks to a month and other times it will do it the next day. And of course it usually does it when the Dealershiip isn't open.

That is why I suggested cleaning first. There could be some debris in the fuel system floating around and causing an issue. Changing the fuel filter, PCV, and adding a quality fuel additive to clean the injectors and fuel rail would be “my” first move, all are general maintenance actions and rather inexpensive.

In my opinion the fuel filter is just as important as the oil filter in changing, just not as often. A clogging fuel filter will cause your symptoms as well as burn the fuel pump out.

I am not much for throwing parts at a problem in hopes of fixing it either, but these suggestions are general maintenance actions and “could” make a huge difference. At the very least it is a step in the right direction.

I have recently added a fuel injector cleaner twice in my gas last month. I will look into getting the fuel filter changed and the PCV value done. Hopefully it will make a diffrenece. Thank you for you help. I will let you know how things go.
