Default '72 f374 ranger camper special.

We bought a 1972 Mitchell camper mounted onto a ford cab and chassis years ago and have let it sit in our shop for probably 15 years. I am wanting to pull the camper off and then restore it to a pickup. The big problem is that the wheelbase is 159". I know there are no boxes that size so I would have to cut about 26" off the frame and drive shaft in order to make a traditional long box fit. are there any inherent problems that might come about in doing this? The motor is a 390 and except for the passthrough into the camper the cab is in near perfect condition except for some hail dimples on some of the ss trim. Could probably buff out the exterior paint and it would look good.
