Default 95 Escort Air bag light on. Bag not connected. Can I ignore it?

I have severe osteoporosis. If the air bag went off it would cause severe pain and many broken bones and maybe death. It hasn't worked since I bought the car, 10 years ago. Lately the warning light comes on (and off) every time I start the car.

Since it's telling me that the air bag isn't connected and I already know that, can I safely ignore the light?

That is your call. I can't in good concious tell you to ignore a life saving device. You need to weigh the options of what will happen in a major crash with or without the air bag working. It also depends a lot on your stature, short, medium, ot a tall person. If the seat is adjusted properly and the seatbelt adjusted properly, the air bag should not hit hard enough to break any bones.
